CELPE-BRAS is a Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners given by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC). It may be taken in Brazil or other countries with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE). This is the only official certificate of proficiency in Portuguese as a foreign language. It is recognized overseas by companies and educational institutions and required by Brazilian universities in graduation and post-graduation programs.
